Vineet Diwadkar is an urban planner and infrastructure specialist working at the intersection of sustainability, infrastructure and governance.
Vineet Diwadkar, AICP, IAM, LEED AP, PMP is Associate Vice President with AECOM’s Urbanism, Advisory & Planning group and Adjunct Faculty at Chulalongkorn University. Vineet works with communities, governments and multilateral organizations, infrastructure owners and operators, and researchers to deliver strategic planning and policy, cross-sector infrastructure and development, and to strengthen livelihoods through ecological and heritage conservation. Over the past 19 years, he has managed US$ 160+ million in programs and provided technical advisement for US$ 54 billion of investment in 14 countries.
At AECOM, Vineet guides award-winning strategy, capital investment planning and program delivery in housing and land development, climate change adaptation and resilience, development of technical regulations, renewable energy, advanced mobility, systems optimization, smart infrastructure systems and data governance. Recent projects include management of the Royal Commission for AlUla’s Integrated Asset Management program, development and implementation of New York City’s Waterfront Code, preparation of the City of Detroit’s Strategic Plan for Technology & Data, and advisement on climate change resilience with UN-HABITAT.
Vineet is co-author of “50 Ways to Game a City: Loophole Planning in Contemporary Mumbai,” a forthcoming book of maps, drawings and writing considering the role of the slum in generating Mumbai’s contemporary urban form. He has collaborated with New York City government on the design of a Universal Basic Income pilot study, has advised local governments and foundations on conservation planning, and community groups on livelihoods protection.
Prior to joining AECOM, Vineet was a research associate with Harvard University’s Urban South Asia Group and Urban Theory Lab, designer and full-time faculty at the National Institute of Design, and designer with the Centre for Development Studies & Activities. His work has been covered by The New York Times, published in the Informal Market Worlds Reader, ICON magazine, and Revista Materia Arquitectura, and exhibited internationally. Vineet holds Master in Urban Planning and Master in Landscape Architecture degrees from Harvard University, where he received the Penny White Prize and Paul M. Heffernan Fellowship, and a Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Tech.
